Congratulations to Brian Cepaitis on becoming Sierra Soaring Club’s newest commercial glider pilot today! Brian did a wonderful job according to his DPE, Dan Gudgel (on the left). Brian is also the first candidate I’ve recommended for a check ride! Well done Brian!

Axel’s Fly-In 2013
Axel’s Birthday Fly-In @ KIYK, March 9
Axel Alvarez will be hosting his 5th annual ice cream social and fly in for his birthday at Inyokern Airport from 11 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, March the 9th. Axel, with the help of friends and pilots from all over southern California, hosts an outstanding fly-in. He provides ice cream for all who want to come out and enjoy a beautiful day at the airport and look at all the airplanes, and that can take a while. Last year Axel and pals filled the main ramp at Inyokern with experimental homebuilt airplanes and classic aircraft. The Ravens formation team Axel flys with also do some nice formation flying over the airfield near the end of the festivities. That’s not all, the airport generously pitches in by offering a substantial discount on fuel ($4.94/gal for 100LL, normally it’s $5.59/gal) all weekend.
If you would like to attend Axel asks that you please email him at axel_alvarez@hotmail.com with your name and the number of people so he has an idea of how many will be there. He doesn’t want anybody to go without ice cream. Kids (of all ages) are guaranteed to have a grand time. Don’t miss out; it’s a real treat!
